BISHOP MALCOLM MCMAHON OP

9th Bishop of Nottingham

It is with fond memories that we say goodbye to Bishop Malcolm who has led our Diocese since December 2000. He will cease to be Bishop of Nottingham when he is installed as Archbishop of Liverpool on 1st May 2014. The College of Consultors will have to meet within a week or so of Bishop Malcolm’s installation as Archbishop of Liverpool to elect a Diocesan Administrator. The period between Bishop Malcolm’s installation as Archbishop of Liverpool and the installation of a new Bishop of Nottingham is known as Sede vacante (‘The See being vacant’); during this time, the governance of the Diocese will be entrusted to the Diocesan Administrator and the College of Consultors. The new Bishop will be appointed by the Holy Father in due course, after a period of consultation.
