YEAR OF FAITH - “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord!”
Post date: Apr 19, 2013 11:52:13 AM
How often do we think about what we say when we respond to the dismissal at the end of Mass: “Go forth …,” “announce the Gospel of the Lord,” “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life”? At every Mass we experience an encounter with the Risen Christ, both individually and collectively as the worshipping community of St Hugh’s. We meet the Lord who calls us by name, just like Mary Magdalene in the garden; or like Peter, the Beloved Disciple and their companions on the seashore. But, just like the disciples, we do not always recognise him, or hear him when he speaks to us. Following the theme of Good Shepherd Sunday, let us pray that we might we more attentive to the sound of his voice and follow him wherever that might lead us. Each of us, no matter how young, or how old, married or single, has a unique vocation in life that cannot be carried out by anyone else. When we are dismissed from Mass, let us take the Risen Lord with us out of the doors onto Monks Road, back to our homes, to our places of work and to every person we meet.
At St Hugh’s the next Year of Faith discussion group will take place on Saturday, 18th May (the eve of Pentecost) after 10am Mass until 12noon. Bishop Malcolm’s theme for May is The Church and the Creed.
At Our Lady’s there is a series of new films about the Catholic Church: a breath taking journey around with world with Fr Robert Barron, as he illuminates the timeless treasures and teachings of Catholicism. Everyone is welcome. The next session will take place on Thursday, 2nd May at 7pm and fortnightly after that.
There will be an On-going Formation evening for Catechists at St. Hugh’s on Thursday, 25th April from 7-9pm. The first film from the above series about the Catholic Church will be shown as part of the evening, which is open to anyone who would like to come along.
