YEAR OF FAITH – A new start in the Autumn

Post date: Sep 6, 2013 2:16:30 PM

The beginning of September is a bit like the beginning of January. For many people it is the start of a new term at school, college or university, with all the excitement, or anxiety, that goes with it. Some young people are preparing to live away from home for the first time, and that can be an anxious time for parents, as well as students! August is usually a quiet time at work. Projects are left on hold while people take their holidays, but as soon as September comes around there is a great rush to catch up with everything again.

Perhaps September is a good time to review our New Year resolutions, if we can remember what they are, or to make some new ones. We might also review our role in our parish family of St Hugh’s. Is there some new task we could undertake during the Autumn? Could we manage a weekday Mass or half an hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament? There are many groups attached to the parish: Justice and Peace; Outreach; a Prayer Network which prays every week for the intentions of others; Fund-raising for a great many charities; as well as the tea/coffee rota; and church cleaning. We might consider joining the Meditation Group; the Folk Group which sings at the 6 pm Mass; or the Sunday morning choir.

There are so many ways in which our talents and skills might be shared with the parish. If you wish to find out more, take a look at the excellent St. Hugh’s website: www.sthughslincoln.org.uk Then have a chat with Fr. John.

Next Year of Faith discussion group at St Hugh’s - Sat. 21st September after 10am Mass.
